The government has formed a high-level committee to identify the cause and source of the fire at the Secretariat and instructed to submit a preliminary report within three days.
Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Advisor to the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, made this remark during a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka on Thursday (Dec 26) evening.
She said that an emergency meeting, chaired by the Chief Adviser, decided to form the committee. It will be led by the Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, with members including the Secretary of Housing, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), the Director General of Fire Service and Civil Defence, an explosives expert from the armed forces, and three experts from BUET—a civil engineer, a chemical engineer, and an electronics engineer.
The committee is tasked with identifying the fire’s cause and source and submitting a preliminary report within three days, she said.
The fire broke out at the Secretariat’s Building 7 at 1:52 a.m. on Wednesday night.
