COX’S BAZAR: A blaze broke out at a market at Ghorokghata in Moheshkahali upazila on Sunday night, burning down 15 shops and three dwelling houses.

Moheshkhali UNO AKM Kawsar Hossain told banglanews24.com.bd that the fire originated inside a fuel oil shop near Moheshkhali Dakbanglow at about 9pm and soon engulfed the adjacent shops and houses.

The might have originated from a burning cigarette, he added.

On information, Fire fighters reached the spot after two-and-a-half hours and doused the fire.

Chokoria fire brigade officials said they could not reach the spot in time as they had to go through a diversion rout witnessing breaches on Chhoto Moheshkahali Bridge.

The extent of damage was estimated by the affected shop owners at about Tk 1 crore.
