The government has granted merit-based promotions to 764 officials of various ranks who had been sidelined in the administration since 2009.
According to an order issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on Sunday (February 9), 119 officials were elevated to secretary, 528 to additional secretary, 41 to grade-1, 72 to joint secretary, and 4 to deputy secretary.
Retired officials who were denied promotions under the Awami League government had until September 30 to apply for compensation, with the deadline later extended by three days.
The review committee received approximately 1,540 applications, ultimately recommending promotions for 764 officials, along with associated benefits and privileges.
The Awami League government was ousted on August 5 last year following mass protests. Subsequently, the interim administration, led by Muhammad Yunus, initiated sweeping changes, including compulsory retirements, the cancellation of contractual appointments, and the reinstatement of officials previously deprived of promotion.
