Kader Gani Chowdhury, Secretary-General of the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ), underscored the need for fearless journalism in the fight against injustice.
He said that the people hate "slave journalism" and the submission of journalists to authority, urging editors and reporters to uphold integrity and truth in their roles.
Speaking at a program held on February 12 to mark the 44th founding anniversary of the National Journalists' Association at the National Press Club, Chowdhury expressed his demand for the immediate justice in the case of journalist couple Sagar and Runi's murder.
He said that media outlets should serve as mirrors reflecting society's true image, emphasizing that objective journalism plays a vital role in advancing society and strengthening democracy.
"Without integrity, there is no journalism," Chowdhury said, urging journalists to use their writing to benefit the nation positively.
The event was presided over by Md. Mominur Rashid Shain, President of the National Journalists' Association, and led by its Secretary-General Md. Kamrul Islam. Other prominent figures, including BFUJ Vice President Md. Obaidur Rahman Shaheen and Dhaka Journalist Union President Md. Shahidul Islam, attended the ceremony.
