A Dhaka court today set April 15 for filing a probe report in the high-profile murder case of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate MA Azharul Islam passed the order, allowing a time plea of the prosecution as the investigation agency failed to submit the report today.
The deadline for submitting the investigation report has been extended for the 116th time.
The couple was brutally murdered on February 11, 2012, at their flat in West Rajabazar, Dhaka, while their four-year-old son, Mahir Sarwar Megh, witnessed the crime.
Runi’s brother, Nawser Alam, filed a murder case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station.
Initially, the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police handled the investigation, later transferring it to the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
Despite multiple extensions, RAB has failed to submit a report in the 12 years since the incident.
In September 2024, the High Court ordered the formation of a high-powered task force, led by the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), to take over the case from RAB.
The Ministry of Home Affairs later formed a four-member task force to conduct the investigation, with a six-month deadline for submitting its findings.
