A couple including three were killed and two critically injured after a truck hit an autorickshaw in Gazipur's Kaliakoir upazila this morning (March 15).

The accident took place around 8:00 am in Namashulai area of the Mauna-Fulbari regional road in the upazila.

The deceased were identified as autorickshaw driver, Obaidul, an unidentified man, 62, and his wife, 58.

Kaliakair Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Md. Kamrul Hasan confirmed the matter.

According to him, a CNG-powered autorickshaw carrying passengers left Mauna Chowrasta in Sreepur in the morning, heading towards Kaliakair. When the autorickshaw reached the Namashulai area on the Kaliakair-Mauna regional road, a brick-laden truck coming from Kaliakair hit the vehicle leaving the three dead on the spot, and two others injured. 

The injured were taken to the Kaliakair Upazila Health Complex for treatment, he said. 

However, the truck driver fled the scene, the OC added.
