The government has fixed the electricity tariff for the Matarbari 1,200MW (600×2) ultra-supercritical coal-fired power plant at Tk 8.4475 per kilowatt-hour.

The total expenditure for purchasing electricity from the plant over a 30-year period has been estimated at Tk 2,17,404.40 crore.

The proposal was approved on Tuesday (April 29) during a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase held at the Secretariat, with Economic Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed in the chair.
