Bangladesh's Charge d'Affaires (CDA) in Russia, Faisal Ahmed, has been recalled to Dhaka with immediate effect, following a controversial social media post and allegations of misconduct.
According to an official order from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Faisal Ahmed has been given a "stand release" from his duties at the Bangladesh Embassy in Moscow. He has been instructed to return to Dhaka without delay.
In his place, Counselor (Political) Md Niaz Morshed has been assigned to serve as the acting Charge d'Affaires at the Moscow mission. The reassignment was made effective on Tuesday (May 27).
The move comes in the wake of Faisal Ahmed’s Facebook post in which he openly criticized the interim government's decision to appoint Bangladesh’s Ambassador to the United States, Asad Alam Siam, as the new Foreign Secretary — a public comment seen as a breach of diplomatic protocol and civil service conduct rules.
Separately, a woman has also made allegations of sexual harassment against Faisal Ahmed on social media, further compounding the controversy surrounding the diplomat.
