The Press Wing of the Chief Adviser has dismissed circulating claims that the interim government is considering any changes to Bangladesh’s national flag, describing such rumours as completely baseless.
In a statement issued on Facebook press wing said, “A false claim has been spreading across various websites and social media platforms, including X (formerly Twitter), suggesting that Bangladesh’s interim government is planning to alter the national flag.”
According to the statement, the rumour falsely alleges that a crescent moon and star—symbols often linked to Pakistan and Turkey—would be added to the flag. The Press Wing said that an edited image of a redesigned flag has gone viral online, gaining nearly one million views and high engagement, particularly from users in Pakistan, Turkey, and Middle Eastern countries.
“These claims are completely untrue,” the statement read.
The Press Wing said that this misinformation appears intended to stir emotional reactions by misusing religious symbols and triggering outrage, especially among conservative and nationalist groups.
The so-called new flag design was generated using artificial intelligence tools, clearly indicating its inauthentic origin.
This is not the first time such false stories have surfaced. Following mass protests in Bangladesh in July, another post by the account @AsianDigest claimed that student leaders had proposed a new flag. That post received more than 90,000 views before it was debunked.
The statement urged users on social media to be cautious and verify information before sharing, stressing that there is no campaign in Bangladesh advocating for a change to the national flag.
“Let us stay focused on facts and avoid spreading baseless rumours,” the statement concluded.
