The Udayan Express train derailed on Tuesday morning in Moglabazar, Fenchuganj Upazila, cutting off rail connections between Sylhet and the rest of the country.
Nurul Islam, manager of Sylhet Railway Station, confirmed the incident to the media, saying that several carriages, including the locomotive, went off the tracks while the train was traveling from Chattogram to Sylhet.
“As a result of the derailment, rail service between Sylhet and other parts of the country has been suspended. A rescue train is on the way. More details will be shared later,” Nurul Islam added.
The railway authorities are closely monitoring the situation and working to restore normal services.
