FROM JATIYA SANGSAD: Parliament on Monday passed a bill keeping the provision of giving special allowances in a rate of 50 percent of the basic salary.
Law Minister Anisul Haque placed the bill ‘Supreme Court Judges (Remuneration and Privileges) (Amendment) Bill-2014’.
With Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair, the bill was passed unequivocally in voice vote.
On January 20, cabinet meeting gave approval of the draft bill with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
The cabinet approved the bill and sent it to the Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Cabinet Committee for vetting.
The bill said the judges of the Supreme Court used to get salaries based on the acts of 1978. The act was amended for once in 2010.
