DHAKA: Engineers at the Roads and Highways Department (RHD) have fallen under the wrath of Communications Minister Obaidul Quader on Friday.
Disappointed Quader came up with the wrath while addressing as the chief guest at the annual conference of Engineers’ Association in Tegaon area of the city in the morning.
At the welcome speech, the engineers presented a long list of road construction and development under the RHD followed by another long list of their demands to the minster.
Later when Quader came to the dais, revealed his exasperation on the engineers’ performance.
The minster said, “I visited each district one more times except Bhola, visited the dilapidated 3 kilometer-stretching roads on Jessore-Khulna highways several times, which has not been repaired yet.”
Expressing dissatisfaction over the engineers’ activities, the minster said “You (the engineers) give excuses that the contractors do not work properly; the engineers’ duty is to make works done by the contractors.”
“Many contractors do not get the money timely, but the engineers get their money from the contactors at the right time, never do this,” Quader urged.
