DHAKA: Norway will provide Tk 116 crore to Bangladesh for community-level disaster risk reduction and adaptation to climate change under the Comprehensive Disaster Management Program (CDMP).

Norwegian Ambassador to Dhaka Ingebjorg Stofring and UNDP Resident Representative Stefan Prisner signed an agreement in this regard on Sunday, a press release said.

CDMP is a joint initiative of the Government of Bangladesh and UNDP supported by the UK Department for International Development (DFID), the European Union, Sweden, Australia and Norway. 

Stefan Prisner said, “Development partners will work collectively to reduce Bangladesh`s vulnerability to disasters and the adverse impacts of climate change through a nationally lead process.”

 “Strengthened disaster response and management capacity is an important national objective for Bangladesh and the programme is designed to achieve this goal. It seeks to reduce vulnerabilities and to empower rural and urban communities to plan for and adapt to hazard risks, including from the impacts of climate change,” said Ingebjorg Stofring.

Tk. 464 crore CDM Project will continue till December 2014.
