33pc people suffer Chikungunya in city

DHAKA: Some 33 percent of total residents in Dhaka city are somehow suffering from Mosquito-borne Chikungunya viruses.

Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) made the disclosure a survey report on Wednesday.

The virus is spread out from Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus species of mosquitoes.

Doctors said the virus does not pose a direct threat to life but physical completions appear on the patient’s body who suffers Chikungunya disease.

The word Chikungunya has come up from the Makonde language of Makonde tribal of Tanzania and Mozambique, which means “that which bends up”.

The disease causes fever and the body of the patient is bent down unusually due to consequent severe pain.
