NCC councilor Nazrul found dead

NARAYANGANJ: Family members and relatives have indentified the bodies of three people including panel mayor Nazrul Islam that of five bodies recovered from Shitalakkhya River on Wednesday.

The deceased along with Nazrul were identified as Swapon and Ibrahim, driver of Advocate Chandan Sarker while two others remained unidentified.

Nazrul’s wife Selina Islam identified her husband’s body.

The recovery sparked protest among the family members, relatives, and the locals. They poured onto Dhaka-Chittagong and Dhaka-Sylhet highways at 3:00pm and blocked the roads.

Angry people set fire to tyres about 10 to 12 places of the roads, vandalized vehicles there, bringing a halt to traffic movement.

Earlier in the afternoon, being informed, police personnel from Port Thana recovered the floating body of Ward Councilor Nazrul Islam and five others one by one some three days after they had gone missing.

On Sunday, miscreants in guise of the law enforcers abducted five persons along with Nazrul Islam, a Panel Mayor of NCC, from the district court premises.

Besides Nazrul, rests are Tajul, Swapan, Liton and the microbus driver.

Local sources said that the victims were kidnapped at gun point while they were preparing to return home appear after the court in the afternoon.
