DMCH interns start 48-hr strike

DHAKA: Interns of the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) went on a 48-hour work abstention from Sunday noon protesting an assault on their colleagues.

The announcement came after their meeting with government and hospital authority at 11:00am.

In the meeting, interns gave the 48-hour ultimatum demanding exemplary punishment to the attackers.

On Saturday night, physician Mominul Islam was beaten up by miscreants in the capital's Chankharpul area.

Soon after the incident, the interns went into a work abstention for one and a half hours since 12:00am demanding immediate arrest of the attackers.

Later, on request from the authorities, the interns backed to work around 1:30am Sunday.

The agitating intern doctors were not in services in outdoor and emergency department till filing of this report.
