THAKURGOAN: Truck, Tank-lorry and Workers Union put blockade on Dhaka-Thakurgoan-Panchagarh highway from early Thursday protesting the detention of eight workers for extortion and gambling.

Hundreds of vehicles remain stranded in a two-kilometer long tailback on both sides of the highway, causing immense sufferings to the passengers.

Thakurgoan Motor Sromik Union General Secretary Abdul Jabbar told banglanews, “Police detained five workers of the union and three workers of truck, tank lorry around 11:30pm Wednesday.”

Following the detention, the workers union went on strike.

Thakurgoan Sadar Thana Officer-in-Charge AKM Mehedi Hasan confirmed the matter to banglanews.
