DHAKA: The carpet of the House of the Jatiya Sangsad is going to be replaced 34 years after it was first set.
Officials at the Parliament Secretariat informed that the replacement will take place before the coming budget session.
The session is set to start on June 3.
Chief Whip ASM Firoz said that the carpet and chair covers became so old that those even give bad smell.
“A change was needed both for the sake of the beauty of the House as well as a healthy environment,” he said.
The Chief Whip however would not talk about budget for the small beautification program.
“Not a big amount... it is so small... Moreover we are doing a good job. So, don’t calculate amount of money to be spent,” he said.
Wares Hossain, Senior Secretary (Common) of the Parliament Secretariat, inform that the budget for carpet replacement is Tk 40 lakh.
He also confirmed replacement of chair covers of the House.
Earlier the Parliament gallery got new sound systems while the lobby new sofas.
“You will see a new look House in the budget session,” said an official carrying out the replacement tasks.
