NOAKHALI: An Upazila Parishad (UP) member was killed as a speedy bus ran over him in Akkal Ali intersection at Sonaimuri upazila in the district on Saturday evening.

The deceased was identified as Gias Uddin, 38, son of Abdul Wahab, an UP member of Ward No-7 of Panchgaon union of Chatkhil upazila and Juba League member.

 Locals said a rashly driven passenger bus crushed into Gias’s motorbike in the area around 7:30 pm, leaving him dead on the spot and his uncle injured.

The injured was rushed to Sonaimuri Upazila Health Complex.

Abdur Samad, officer-in-charge of the Sonaimuri Police Station, confirming the incident said they recovered the body.
