PM uses dual-SIM cheap phone set

DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina uses a dual-SIM cheap mobile phone set.

“Two SIMs can be used in cheap phone sets and I myself have one such set,” she told the opening ceremony of “Digital World 2014” conference at Bangabandhu International Conference Center in the capital this morning.

Elaborating her government’s plan and successes so far for a digital Bangladesh by the year 2021, the PM said that the mobile operators have been playing an important role in achieving the target.

“Newer technologies are now on the doorstep of people…Technologies are now within the purchase capacity of commoners,” said Sheikh Hasina.

Pinpointing the role of mobile phones for digitization of the country, the Prime Minister told the mainly ICT-oriented audience that rural people are now being able to have latest information communication technology services. “… The country is now free from digital discrimination.”

The PM informed that some 11 crore SIMs are now active in the country. The figure in a country of 16 crore people of whom 80-85 lakh live abroad is significant, she told the opening of the “Digital World” conference.

“The achievement was possible due to bringing down price of mobile phone sets and connections as well as cheap call rate,” said the Prime Minister.

Talking about the cheaper phone sets, Sheikh Hasina informed that she herself uses a dual-SIM cheap phone set.
