FROM PARLIAMENT: Commerce Minster Tofail Ahmed on Sunday said the existing law would be made tougher by amending to stop misuse of formalin.
The minister made the assertion in response to a question from Chittagong-2 constituency lawmaker Najibul Bashar Maizbhandari standing on a point of order in the parliament.
He said, “Joint meetings have been held with an organization named ‘Consumer Rights Protection’ on what measures can be taken to stop using formalin, different teams have already begun working on the matter.”
Talks were held with the law minister to pass the law with the inclusion of the tough punishment within this session, and the draft bill has been sent to the law ministry, added the minister.
The bill would be passed in the ongoing session upon the ministry’s approval, the minister hoped.
