DHAKA: In the latest development, the government has decided to provide new crests made of pure gold to the foreign friends who helped during the liberation war in 1971.
Liberation War Affairs Ministry has sent a letter to Advocate Monjil Morshed, lawyer of the High Court, in this regard on Monday which he disclosed on Tuesday.
On May 19, lawyer Monjil Morshed filed a writ petition seeking HC’s directives to make new crests and send to the foreign friends when media published news items about gold scam in making crests.
Lawyer Monjil Morshed told banglanews that he has received a letter from the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs.
It said a parliamentary investigation committee has been formed to probe into the matter, he added.
Currently, the case is not in the list of proceedings of the court but I will take initiatives for hearing of the writ if the government does not send new crests to the foreign friends.
Earlier, a BSTI experiment proved that the gold used in the crests that were awarded to foreign friends, including statespersons, politicians, philosophers, intellectuals, noted citizens and organizations, on the eve of 40th anniversary of independence of the country, was of poor quality.
