Ramna blast case verdict now June 23

DHAKA: A Dhaka court deferred the verdict in much-talked-about Ramna Batamul bomb blast case till June 23 as it fails to complete writing the judgment. 

Additional Sessions Judge of Dhaka-2 Ruhul Amin re-fixed the date on Monday noon.   

Earlier, the same court had fixed June 16 to deliver the verdict after concluding arguments on May 28 after some 14 years of the deadly blast.  

At the end of the argument, the state prosecution demanded the highest punishment to the accused.

While the defense counsels demanded the acquittal of the accused as no allegation have been proved against the accused.

On May 8 and the 18 both prosecution and defense placed argument in the case.

Along with Mufti Hannan, the 13 others accused in the cases are Arif Hasan Sumon, Mawlana Akbar Hossain, Shahadat Ullah Jewel, Mawlana Abu Taher, Mawlana Abdur Rouf, Mawlana M Tazuddin, Mawlana Sabbir, Hafez Jahangir Alam, Mawlana Abu Bakar, Mufti Shafiqur Rahman, Hafez Mawlana Yahiaya and Mufti Abdul Hai.

Mawlana Akbar was enjoying bail. Later, court sent him to jail canceling the bail.

Mufti Hannan, Arif Hasan Sumon, Shahadat Ullah Jewel, Mawlana Abu Taher, Mawlana Shawkat Osman alias Sheikh Farid and Mawlana Abdur Rauf are in jail now while rests of the others are still in hiding.

On the day of the blast, Sergeant Amal Chandra of Babupura Police Station filed a murder case with Ramna Police Station. Later, the Detective Branch and Criminal Investigation Department took over the case.

The blasts took place during the traditional celebrations of Bangla New Year 1408 organized by Chhayanaut at Ramna Batamul in city.
