FROM THE PARLIAMENT: Law, justice and parliamentary affairs minister Anisul Huq on Monday told Jatiya Sangsad that some 577 war crimes cases were filed across the country.

The minister disclosed these responding to a written question from lawmaker Nizam Uddin Hazari at the budget session of the 10th parliament.

Anisul said, ‘Of the cases, 112 cases have been lodged in Dhaka division, 84 in Chittagong, 66 in Rajshahi, 184 in Khulna, 50 in Sylhet, 51 in Barisal and 30 cases have been filed in Rangpur  division’.

He went on saying, ‘Trial of war crimes began through framing charges at the International Crimes Tribunal by the prosecution following the probe of the tribunal’s investigation team’.

‘The tribunal has disposed 10 cases to date, of which, one of the convicts has been executed.’

‘Ten cases are undergoing trial and 4 of those have been kept on CAV (Curia Advisari Vult, a Latin legal term meaning verdict would be delivered anytime),’ Anisul informed the House.
