DHAKA: A Dhaka court Monday re-fixed August 13 for submitting charge-sheets of Rana plaza cases as the investigation committee has failed to submit it today.
Chief Judicial Magistrate Wasim Sheikh Ali fixed the new date.
CID assistant police super Bijoy Krishno Kar is investigating the two cases of Rana plaza tragedy.
The investigation committee has already quizzed concerned people on the matter.
Of the three cases, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed a case against 17 people, excluding Sohel Rana, for construction of Rana Plaza violating building code.
The two other cases were filed by Savar Thana SI Wali Ashraf Khan and Rajuk authorized officer Helal Ahmed.
The anti-graft watchdog approved filing of the case more than a year after the collapse of the building that killed at least 1,135 people in Savar on April 24 last year.
The 17 accused include Sohel Rana’s parent Abdul Khaleque and Marjina Begum, Savar Municipality Ward Commissioner Haji Mohammad Ali, Khulna University assistant professor (architecture discipline) Architect ATM Masud Reza.
Engineer Sajjad Hossain, Savar Municipality Mayor Refatullah, Savar Municipality former chief executive Uttam Kumar Roy, executive engineer Rafiqul Islam, former assistant engineer Mahbubur Rahman and former deputy assistant engineer Rakibul Hasan Russel are also in the list.
Savar Municipality former Town Planner Farzana Islam, license inspector Mohammad Abdul Motaleb, the municipality’s former secretary Marjina Khan, municipality’s former secretary Abul Bashar, Phantom Apparels chairman Mohammad Aminul Islam, New Wave Bottom’s Managing Director Bazlus Samad and Ether Tex chairman Anisur Rahman complete the list.
The case was filed under Corruption Prevention Act-1947 5(2) and 109 section of penal code that indicates this sort of crime is punishable.
Rana used to look after the building Rana Plaza though his father Abdul Khaleque was owner of the building.
ACC said, the 6-storey Rana Plaza was built with the approval of Savar Municipality. Later, the municipality authorities approved four more stories following an appeal by Abdul Khaleque ignoring the main design of the building.
Besides, Rana Plaza was built as a shopping complex but the municipality authorities approved garment factories in the annexed floors.
