Dhaka: Two suspected criminals were killed in a “gunfight” with Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) troubleshooters in the capital’s Gandaria area early Wednesday, after a recent pause in incidents better known as ‘crossfire’.

The deceased were identified as Sumon, a “robber” hailed from Munshiganj district, and “terrorist” Alauddin from Jatrabari in the capital city.

Sumon was wanted in 10 cases while Alauddin in three cases filed with Sutrapur thana, said SI Nasiruddin of Gandaria police station.

He said Sumon and his associate, Alauddin, were killed in an “encounter” with the elite force at Albert ground behind Gandaria School at about 1:30am.

Two pistols were recovered from the scene after the late-night shootout, which took place in the wake of resurgence in the incidence of crime in the sprawling capital city.

The bodies of the duo were sent to Mitford Hospital morgue.

Details would be disclosed through a RAB-10 press conference to be held later in the day.
