US grants $17-lakh for BD cops

DHAKA: United States of America will provide additional $1.7 million as grant for the advanced training of law enforcers and improvement of the judicial department. 

A deal has been signed at UN conference room of Economic Relations Divisions (ERD) in city on Sunday noon.

ERD Secretary Mohammad Mejbah Uddin and US Ambassador Dan W Mozena signed the deal for the respective side.

US State Department will implement the project in cooperation with Law, Justice and parliamentary affairs ministry and Home Ministry.

As some 18 lakhs cases remained pending for trial so training will be given to settle the cases transparently under the projects.

ERD secretary Mohammad Mejbah Uddin said crime pattern has changed with the change of time. Our police force will be trained on how to deal with them. 

Law-enforcement agencies will be trained to prevent crime and trafficking in border. The grants will be spent to improve law and order.
