DHAKA: Eid-Al-Fitr, the biggest religious festival of the Muslims, will be celebrated across the country on Tuesday as the Shawwal moon is sighted in the sky of Bangladesh on Monday.

The National Moon Sighting Committee made the disclosure after a meeting at Islamic Foundation (Baitul Mukarram) in the evening.

The committee, presided over by Religious Affairs Minister Principal Matior Rahman, took the decision after reviewing reports from district administrations and agencies concerned.

All the reports said the new moon was seen in the country in the evening, an official told banglanews, quoting the meeting decision.

President M Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Raushan Ershad greeted the countrymen and Muslims across the world on the occasion of Eid-Al-Fitr.

In separate messages, they wished peace, progress and prosperity for all. All preparations for holding the Eid congregations have already been completed all over the country.

The main Eid congregation in the capital will be held at the National Eidgah at 8.30am.

In addition to this, two more separate Eid congregations will be held at Dhaka University sports ground and the south plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad.
