DHAKA: An expatriate Bangladeshi was killed and five other members of the family were injured in a road accident on Tuesday, the second day of Eid ul-Fitr.
Deceased Nasima Jahan Silpi was the wife of Amir Firoz, member of the governing board of Bangladesh International School (BIS) in Jeddah board member.
The incident took place on the highway between Medina and Tabuk near the Al-Jinn valley.
“Nasima was immediately taken to King Fahad Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries at 9:30pm on Tuesday,” said Rumi Sayeed, media coordinator at BIS.
Another member of the family is still in critical condition, she added.
Staff members at the school are saddened by the tragic loss suffered by their fellow colleague.
Statistics from the General Directorate of Traffic show that the Kingdom has 23 deaths per 100,000 people, with on average 19.1 road fatalities occurring daily.
There are approximately 7,100 road fatalities every year and 38,000 are seriously injured, of whom seven percent are permanently disabled.
