42 killed in countrywide incidents

DHAKA: A total of 42 people were killed in countrywide separate incidents, including boat capsize, road crashes and drowning on Thursday.

In Dhaka, an on-duty Ansar member was strangulated to death in Kamalapur Railway Station area in the city on Thursday morning.

Police recovered body of a listed mugger in Dakkhin Badda area of the city on the morning of the day. Confirming the matter to banglanews, Badda Thana Officer-In-Charge (OC) said, “The mugger was an accused in 5 more mugging cases.”

In Kushtia, bodies of all 12 victims of boat capsize were recovered from Padma River in phases till Thursday noon.

Deputy Commissioner Syed Belal Hossain said, “Families of all victims were given Tk 20,000 for funeral expenditure.”

Allude to, on Eid day afternoon, a boat with 19 people on board capsized in Padma in Daulatpur. Some 15 people went missing and other managed to swim to the bank.

In Sirajganj, nine bodies were recovered and five people went missing after a boat with 50 passengers on board capsized at Baguchia point of the Jamuna River in Chauhali upazila of the district on the morning.

Chauhali Thana officer-in-charge Shamsul Haq confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Meanwhile, district administration handed over TK 50,000 to the victims’ family each.

In Sylhet, police recovered a body of youth who fell trapped in quicksand on Piayin River in Goainghat of the district.

Goainghat Thana Officer-in-Charge confirmed the matter to banglanews.

In Comilla, three members of a family were killed and two others injured after a private car hit a bridge on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Basantapur area of Chaddagra upazila of the district on the day.

A man was killed and 10 others injured when a Dhaka-bound passengers bus of Tisha Paribahan collided with Chandpur-bound passenger bus of Hajiganj Paribahan in Dheetpur area of Daudkandi upazila of the district

The injured were admitted at Gowripur Upazila Health complex and Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

In Feni, two people were killed and 15 others injured in a head-on collision between a microbus and a bus on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Nitkunjara area of Chhagalnaiya upazila of the district in the noon.

The injured were rushed to Baraiyarhat General Hospital of the upazila.

In Rangpur, police recovered the body of an octogenarian man who was hacked to death by the opponents over land disputes in Char Chathura area of Kaunia Thana.

Victim’s wife filed a murder case in this connection.

A sexagenarian man was crushed under the wheel of a running train in Badarganj upazila of the district.

At Joypurhat, a mugger was killed after a mob gave him a mass beating in Komor village under Sadar upazila of the district Thursday early.

In Lakshmipur, police recovered the body of a 21-year-old pregnant housewife who was killed by her father-in-law family members.

Police detained the victim’s husband and the man’s second wife in this connection.

In Dinajpur, two people were killed and 20 others including woman and children injured when a locally-made human hauler Nasimon turned turtle after it was hit by a running bus in Durgapur area of Birampur Upazila of the district on the noon of the day.

In Moulvibazar, a housewife was killed in a collision between a private car and a CNG-run auto rickshaw in Daser Bazar area of Borolkha upazila of the district on the noon of the day.

In Munshiganj, two sisters drowned in a pond in Marialay viilager under Tongibari upazila of the district on the day.

They were cousin to each other and went to visit the father’s-in-law house of their bothers on Eid vacation, family sources said.

Two youths were killed and three others injured as a human hauler ran over them on Katakhali-Makhati road in Munshiganj Pourasava of the district on the day.

In Chittagong, a teenage boy drowned in a pond in Hamzarbagh area of Hathajari of city.
