DHAKA: Security measures have been beefed up in front of Readymade Garment factories in city’s Badda area to avert any untoward situation following ongoing workers’ unrest.
Huge police members are seen taking position in front of Tuba Garment, Fuji Tower, Holland center, Lutfun Tower in the area from Friday morning.
Armored Car of police (ACP), water cannon kept on alert on the spot to tackle any unexpected incidents for workers’ strike.
Regarding the matter, Badda thana officer-in-charge M A Jalil told banglanews that on Thursday, demonstrating RMG workers blocked road, vandalized vehicles, clashed with police over due salaries and bonuses. They also called workers’ strike for Friday. So, we beefed up security measures in the area.
Nearly 1,600 workers had been staging protests -- around 300 of them on hunger strike -- in Tuba factory since the day before Eid-ul-Fitr demanding arrears for the months of May, June and July, including overtime and Eid bonuses.
After clashes with agitating garment workers, on Thursday, police detained two trade union leaders -- Moshrefa Mishu and Joly Talukder. They were freed later.
