BD youth drown after BSF’s chase

MEHERPUR: A Bangladeshi youth drowned here in the Mathabhanga River in Gangni on Saturday night following chase of the Indian Border Security Force (BSF).

The deceased was identified as Abdur Razzak (Shamim), 24, son of Shahidul Islam of Baher Majhir Char village under Daulatpur upazila of Kushtia.

Locals told banglanews that Shamim with other four Bangladeshis went to neighboring India’s Kerala in search of work couple of days ago.

They jumped to the river at Kazipur of the upazila on Saturday night after BSF chased them while returning home, witnesses alleged.

Confirming the matter to banglanews, Gangni Thana Officer-in-Charge (OC) Riazul Islam said that police, after being informed from locals, recovered Shamim’s body around 10:30pm.

However, OC added that the body will be handed over to his relatives on Sunday.
