Flood hits country’s different parts

DHAKA: Flood has hit the different parts of the country for several days, leaving thousands of people marooned and the flood conditions worsened in most of the areas.

Besides, the flood water went down under the danger line in several places and the conditions got slightly improved.

Banglanews correspondents report from the flood-hit areas.

In Sherpur, several hundreds of people marooned as some 10 villages of the district went under the water of rain and upstream from the hills at Jhinaigati upazila. Aman paddy fields went washed away in the areas.

In Bogra, heavy rain and upstream water caused an unusual increase on the Jamuna River. As a result, nearly 300 houses were inundated beside the riverbank at Sariakandi upazila of the district.

Water Development Board sources said water increased by 45 centimeters in last 24 hours that was flowing 35 cementers up from the danger line. Authorities concerned apprehended that flood control dam may break anytime.

In Bhola, 50,000 people were stranded in 20 char areas at Sadar, Borhanuddin, Lamohon and Char Fashion upazilas. Usually, some of these places went under water due to up tide water.

In Feni, flood conditions improved slightly in the riverbank villages of Muhuri and Kuhuya rivers in the district. Villagers feared that the condition may get worsened again unless the damaged dams are not renovated immediately.

In Gaibandha, nearly 2,000 families fell trapped by flood-water in 15 villages under Sudargan upazila as the water level of Teesta and Brahmaputra rivers increased.

Water Development Board sources said, water is flowing under the danger lines now in both rivers.
