DHAKA: A freedom fighter from Tangail faced sudden death in front of the Secretariat gate on Monday morning.

The deceased freedom fighter was identified as Mohammad Ali, also former Subedar of Bangladesh Army, hailed from Sabalia village of Tangail Sadar.

Quoting witnesses, Sub-Inspector of Shahbagh Thana Suruj Uddin told banglanews, “Freedom Fighter Mohammad Ali suddenly fainted while coming towards the Secretariat gate from National Press Club area.”

“People fanned him and poured water on his head, but he died on the spot,” he added.

“Later, we found the mobile number of his son-in-law in his phone and contacted him,” he added.

Son-in-law Ashraful Islam told banglanews that his father-in-law Ali came to Dhaka to rectify the spelling of the name of his village on his Freedom Fighter certificate.

SI Suruj Uddin further said that considering the matter from humanitarian angle, they sent the body without any autopsy.
