DHAKA: Flood hit at different parts of the country, leaving thousands of people marooned and hundreds of houses and acres of crops washed away.

A seven-month-old baby boy drowned in Bogra, said a spot account of the incident.

Banglanews correspondents report from the flood-affected areas.

In Sirajganj, several thousands of people of some 50 villages marooned in riverside areas and char-lands of the river Jamuna at Kazipur, Chawhali, Enayetpur, Shajadpur and Sadar upazila as the water is continuously increasing in the river.

Heavy current of Jamuna also caused river erosion at different points of Kazipur, Enayetpur and Sadar upazila. Water was flowing some four centimeters up from the danger level in the river Jamuna.

In Bogra, heavy downpour and upstream water from hills broke parts of a flood control dam in Ghughumari Shekhpara area under Sariakandi upazila on Monday late night.

Water is flowing over 39 centimeters up from the danger level in the river.

However, a seven-month-old baby boy drowned. Mother of the boy was working there, keeping him on the dam. All of a sudden, the boy slipped down and drowned.

His family took shelter there after flood affected their house.

In Sherpur, several thousands of people fell trapped as flood water began inundating hundreds of houses in some 25 villages at Nalitabari upazila from Monday night.

Sources of the upazila agriculture authorities said around 500 acres of paddy fields washed away due to the increase of flood water.

In Jamalpur, water increased by 47 centimeters on the river Jumuna on Monday night, following over 33 centimeters up from the danger level.

Riverside areas inundated in Dewanganj, Islampur, Madarganj, and Sarishabari upazilas.

A flood control dam was broken down in Tartapara area under Islampur upazila on Monday night due to heavy pressure of water, washing away over five thousands acres of crops lands.

Water Development Board sources said the increase of water would continue for the next three days.

In Sunamganj, heavy downpour began on Tuesday morning across the district. Water was flowing 37 centimeters up from the danger level in Surma River.
