DHAKA: The High Court (HC) on Sunday issued a rule asking government to explain within two weeks why 16th Constitutional amendment that allowed parliament to impeach Supreme Court judges, should not be declared illegal. 

An HC bench comprising Justice Moinul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Ashraful Kamal issued the rule following a writ petition of nine lawyers.

Secretaries of cabinet, PMO, Law and parliament secretariat were made respondents to the rule.

Advocate Monzil Morshed moved in favor of the writ.
