PATUAKHALI: A fisherman was killed and 50 went missing after sea robbers conducted mass robbery at Baleshwari estuary of the Bay of Bengal on Sunday noon.

The deceased was identified as Motaleb Hossain, a boatman of Chittagong Bengal Company, hailed from Bhola district. 

Local sources said around 50 boats were returning to the coast as weather turned into rough. Then a gang of robbers attacked the boats and opened fire aiming the fishermen, leaving one dead and several others injured. 

Kuakata Naval police outpost in-charge Sub-Inspector Sanjoy said that a boatman sustained bullet injury.

The body was kept at Kalapara Upazila Health Complex.
