Japan PM due on Sep 6

DHAKA: Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will pay a tow-day official visit to Bangladesh on September 6-7 at the invitation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

This visit is taking place after fourteen years since the then Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori of Japan visited Bangladesh in the year 2000.

The disclosure came from a press release signed by Assistant Secretary (Media) Kakoli Saha of External Publicity Wing of Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday afternoon.

During the visit, Japanese Prime Minister will hold official talks with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and will call on President Abdul Hamid, the news release added.

The release also said: “Japanese Prime Minister will address the Bangladesh-Japan Economic Forum jointly organized by Bangladesh Board of Investment (BOI), Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), and Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) to promote trade between Bangladesh and Japan and attract Japanese investment in Bangladesh.”

This is the return visit by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in quick succession of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s official visit to Japan in May 2014.

“It is evident from the outcome of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to Japan that Japan is very keen in expanding and deepening ‘Comprehensive Partnership’ in almost all areas of our bilateral, economic, social and cultural relations,” it added.
