DHAKA: At least 20 people, including journalists and police, were injured when the leaders and activists of BNP locked into clashes with police in the city’s Bankhshi Bazar area on Wednesday.
Details of the injured could not be known.
The clashes took place centering Khaleda’s entrance into a makeshift court, set up on Alia Madrasa ground in the area, to appear before it in Zia Orphanage and Zia Charitable Trust graft cases.
BNP leaders and activists gathered in the area. The clashes ensued when a BNP man threw a brick chip to the police; police chased them, triggering a clash.
Police fires rubber bullets and tear gas canisters, leaving 20 people including journalists injured.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police assistant commissioner (Lalbagh Zone) Mehedi Hasan told banglanews, no party men were allowed to enter into the court with Khaleda for the sake of court’s security; being angry, they attacked police, in retaliation, law enforcers lobbed tear shells to keep the situation under control.”
A police member was injured in the clashes, he claimed.
