Firoza Begum’s body at Azad Masjid

DHAKA: The body of the Nazrul Sangeet legend Firoza Begum is now kept in city’s Gulshan Azad Masjid.

Her Namaz-e-Janaza will be held here after Asr prayers and later she will be laid to rest at Banani graveyard of the city.

Earlier, people from all walks of life paid tribute to the music legend at the Central Shaheed Minar premises on Wednesday afternoon.

Sources told banglanews that Firoza Begum’s sons Hamin Ahmed and Shafin Ahmed were also present.

Hamin said his mother sacrificed her life for upholding the melody Nazrul Sangeet. “She did a lot for presenting Nazrul Sangeet,” he added.

Hamin, however, requested all to pray for his mother’s departed soul.

In the noon, Firoza Begum’s body was taken to the Shaheed Minar from her Indira Road apartment in city.

On Tuesday night, she breathed her last at Apollo Hospitals in the city at the age of 84.
