CHITTAGONG: A Chittagong court on Wednesday awarded life-term imprisonment to two accused in a rape case in the district.

The convicts are Mohammad Shukkur and M Jahangir.

Judge M Rezaul Karim of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 passed the order after completion of the proceedings of the case.

The court also fined Tk 50,000 to each of the accused.

Public Prosecutor (PP) of the tribunal Jesmin Akhter told banglanews that the court passed the order as the allegation against them under the section 9 (3) of Women and Children Repression Prevention Act was proved unequivocally.

The case statement said, on September 7, 2002, Shukur and Jahangir raped a 16-year old girl taking her in an abandoned house in Balur Tal area of Chandgaon Thana.

They betrayed her saying that they would take her to her sister’s house in Kalurghat Khejurtal area of the thana.

The victim filed a case in this connection on September 10 with Chandgaon Thana.
