DHAKA: Speakers, at a human chain program, urged Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to pressurize rich countries to meet the climate liability for carbon emission.
The Equity and Justice Working Group (EJWG), which is widely known as equitybd, an alliance of several NGOs and CSOs, in addition to many individual or groups activists in Bangladesh, made the plea on Sunday noon at a human chain in front of the National Press Club.
The organization demanded that developed countries must admit historical responsibility and make commitments to reduce the Green House Gases emissions.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina should raise her voice strongly in this regard, they added.
They also urged the premier to demand climate forced migrants’ rights and proper compensation under the cover of loss and damage discourse in upcoming Climate Change Summit called by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon to be held on September 23 in New York.
Equitybd secretariat coordinator Syed Aminul Haque also spoke at the human chain.
However, the Prime Minister will leave Bangladesh on Sunday night to attend the UN general assembly.
