Youth killed in B’baria polls clash

BRAHMANBARIA: A youth was killed at Champaknagar Union Parishad (UP) by-election violence in Bijoynagar upazila on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Babul Mia, 25, son of Abdul Hekim of Satirpara village of the upazila.

Witnesses told banglanews that the supporters of chairman candidates Hamidur Haque Hamdu and Zakir Hossain Shah Alam locked into a clash over taking control of Petuajury Government Primary School polling centre around 3:00pm.

Later, supporters of both party opened fire, leaving Babul injured with bullet hit.

The injured were taken to Akhaura Upazila Health Complex where he succumbed to his injuries in the evening.

On information, police rushed in and fired 17 rounds of bullet to make the situation under control.

The clash also left 20 other people injured.

Officer-in-Charge M Abdur Rob of Bijoynagar Thana confirmed the matter to banglanews.
