Fire at city building kills 1

DHAKA: A man was killed as a devastating fire raged through a high-rise in city's Fakirapul area early Monday.

The deceased was identified as Ebadat Fakir, 45, a security guard of the building.

Sources said that the fire originated at Paramount Height’ building around 12:30am and soon spread out to the area, leaving the guard critically injured.

On information, 14 fire units rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control after one hour effort.

Later, the injured was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where duty doctor declared the burnt man dead around 3:00am.

Confirming the matter, Fire Service Director (Operation) Major Mohammad Mahbub told banglanews electric short circuit would be the cause of fire.

The extent of loss caused by the fire could not be estimated immediately, he added.
