DHAKA: Atlanta will host the World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates in 2015 with former president Jimmy Carter, philanthropist Ted Turner and diplomat Andrew Young, among others.
Bangladesh Nobel Laureate professor Muhammad Yunus was in Atlanta, from September 27-29, to lead and participate in gala to announce the event.
“Atlanta deserves to be the host city for the Nobel Laureates for many reasons,” Yunus said in his speech mentioning the city’s history in civil and human rights.
“Atlanta has a great tradition of fighting for human rights. There is a heritage of peace starting with Martin Luther King, President Carter, Andrew Young and Ted Turner. This is a tradition for Atlanta, this is its heritage.”
He declared Atlanta as the City of Peace.
Yunus said he envisions Atlanta hosting a “Global March for Peace” event, bringing participants from all countries of the world, during the Nobel Summit in 2015.
He added that from 2015 it could become an annual event.
It is expected that, the Nobel summit will feature over 2,000 leaders from all around the globe and over 25,000 students to engage in discussions and activities to promote global peace.
