DHAKA: A Dhaka court issued an arrest warrant against Abdul Latif Siddique, recently removed as minister for posts, telecommunications and information technology, for hurting people’s religious sentiment.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate court Judge Shahriar Mahmud Adnan issued the arrest warrant on Wednesday.
On October 2, lawyer Shah Alam filed a case against Latif in the same court. Accepting the case, the court summoned the accused to be appeared before the court on October 15.
Since the accused did not appear according to the date, the plaintiff Advocate Shah Alam appealed to the court to issue an arrest warrant against the accused.
After hearing, the court accepted the appeal and issued the arrest warrant.
The court also fixed the date for next hearing on November 23.
However, a total of six cases have been filed in Dhaka court against the former minister for his derogatory remarks on Hajj and Tablighi Jamaat.
