CHANDPUR: The fishermen started fishing on Thursday in the Meghna and Padma Rivers after 11-day ban on catching and selling of Hilsa fish.

Sources said that hundreds of fishermen started catching fishes in full swing as the ban was withdrawn.

District Fisheries Office sources said that some 57 mobile courts conducted 109 drives during the ban over fishing in the Meghna.

Taskforce Chief and Deputy Commissioner Islam Hossain told banglanews that the Hilsa fish saving drive was much better in this year.

Chandpur coast guard station Officer Hasanur Rahman told banglanews that coast guards were deployed for 24 hours during the ban to save mother Hilsa fish.

Earlier, the authorities concerned imposed the ban for 11 days from October 5 to ensure safe spawning of the fish during its peak breeding period to boost production of the delicious fish.
