BNPÔÇÖs Delwar, Shah Moazzem, Barrister Rafiq summoned on sedition charge

DHAKA: Opposition BNP leaders Khandaker Delwar Hossain, Shah Moazzem Hossain and Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mian were summoned to appear in Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court on August 25 in a sedition case filed against them Sunday for their threatening remarks against the Prime Minister.

Metropolitan Magistrate AKM Emdadul Haque issued the summons shortly after the trio BNP big shots were sued by Hazrat Maulna Mohammad Ilias Hossain bin Helali, president of Awami Olama League, the religious front of the ruling party.

In the case, the maulana alleged that BNP Secretary-General Delwar Hossain, Vice-chairman Shah Moazzem Hossain and Standing Committee member Barrister Rafiq at a rally on 25 July at Muktangan in the capital threatened Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina with dire consequences of her activities they termed repressive and secretive.

`You will face the same fate as your father,’ the top BNP leaders were quoted by the complainant as saying in their respective address to the Muktangan crowd, held as part of their current anti-government movement.

The case was filed with Metropolitan Magistrate AKM Emdadul Haque’s court.
