DHAKA: State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Affairs Nasrul Hamid on Sunday claimed that there is no load-shedding in the country right now.
Minister also explained, “If there is power shortage in any area now that is due to some local problems, not generation crisis.”
Nasrul Hamid was addressing a press briefing at Bidyut Bhaban in city in the morning.
Minister also said the demand of electricity at 11:00am on Sunday was 4,900MW which was generated.
Power plants could have been affected severely but a stroke of luck saved power plants, he added.
In response to a question, Prime Minister’s Power and Energy Adviser Dr Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury said some 430MW electricity was added to national grid from India at 11 in the morning.
He further said as it is not possible to set up back up system of the country’s power grid lines, important establishment likes hospitals and airports should introduce their own back up systems.
Tawfiq-e-Elahi also said he would discuss the matter with those institutions.
Thanking countrymen for showing patience, State Minister Nasrul Hamid said they have formed an eight-member committee to find out the reasons behind the Saturday’s power failure.
