DHAKA: A 50-member group of noted citizens named ‘People’s SAARC Bangladesh Process Group’ on Saturday said Nepal is the most liberal country among the SAARC nations.
Speakers made the assertion at a press conference at National Press Club in city in the morning.
Members of the group will visit Nepal on November 22-25 to press home the demand of people.
The ‘People’s SAARC Bangladesh Process Group’ organized the conference to highlight their demands.
Speakers criticised SAARC for its inaction in implementing the declarations adopted in SAARC Climate Change Summits in Dhaka (2008) and Thimpu (2010) adding that the organization has failed to highlight the demands of people.
The 18th SAARC Summit, scheduled to be held in Kathmandu on November 26-27, should promote connectivity for human development, not only profit, they added.
The ‘People’s SAARC Bangladesh Process Group’, represented by Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon (BAPA), BERDM, Bangladesh Nari Progati Sangha (BNPS), Equity and Justice Working Group Bangladesh (EquityBD), Institute of Environment and Development (IED), Khani Bangladesh, Nagorik Uddyog and Sushanoer Jonny Procharavizan (SUPRO), organized the event.
‘People’s SAARC Bangladesh Process Group’ chair Dr Rashid E Mahbub, Sahnaz Sumi of BNPS, Mostafa Kamal Akand, Abdul Matin and Zakir Hossain, among others, were present at the conference.
